Doe mee met ons nieuwe project: Financieel Vooruit!

Steeds meer mensen in Nederland hebben moeite om financieel rond te komen, en velen leven in schulden. Veel kerken zijn erg actief in het helpen van mensen om hun leven te verbeteren, zowel op geestelijk als op sociaal-economisch vlak. Mensen kloppen vaak bij de kerk aan die dan bijvoorbeeld een voedselpakket geeft.

Dit project is er op gericht om mensen in financiële stress te informeren over de hulp waar zij recht op hebben. Er is namelijk hulp beschikbaar - de landelijke overheid heeft de afgelopen tijd een aantal nieuwe mogelijkheden ontwikkeld om de toenemende armoede te bestrijden. Maar het blijkt dat zo’n 30% van de mensen die hier recht op hebben, er geen gebruik van maken. Soms omdat ze niet weten dat ze daar recht op hebben, of de weg niet weten te vinden.

In dit project krijgen kerkelijk werkers een korte training om "Financieel Ambassadeur" te worden. Zij worden verder toegerust en in staat gesteld om mensen in en rond hun kerken en community te informeren over wat hun rechten op hulp zijn. SKIN wil hiermee de maatschappelijke inzet van de kerken versterken, door kerkelijk werkers kennis mee te geven over beschikbare hulp.

Het primaire doel van dit project is om een brug te slaan tussen mensen met financiële stress en de beschikbare hulpprogramma's. Anonimiteit is gegarandeerd, persoonlijke gegevens waardoor mensen traceerbaar zouden zijn worden niet gevraagd. Mensen die uit vertrouwen de kerk om hulp vragen moeten daar op kunnen rekenen.  

 

Wil jij Financieel Ambassadeur worden in jouw kerk of community?

Dat houdt het volgende in:

• Het project start in Rotterdam en Amsterdam, dus we zoeken mensen vanuit de kerken in deze steden. Je hoeft niet persé zelf in deze steden te wonen.

• Je krijgt een korte (gratis) training van twee dagdelen, waarbij je onder andere een quickscan leert gebruiken en informatie krijgt over beschikbare hulp van overheid en maatschappelijke organisaties in jouw stad.

• Daarna word je gevraagd om voorlichting te geven en zoveel mogelijk mensen aan te moedigen om de quickscan door te lopen. Deze voorlichting kan zowel in groepsverband (bijvoorbeeld na afloop van een kerkdienst, bij een vrouwenavond, of een creatieve optie die je zelf bedenkt en goed bij jou past) als in één op één gesprekken. Dit mag zowel in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, of in een andere plek.

• Mochten mensen na de quickscan ontdekken dat ze meer recht op hulp hebben, dan kun je hen informatie geven over waar ze naar toe moeten gaan om die hulp te krijgen. Indien nodig, kun je met hen meegaan (bijvoorbeeld om te helpen vertalen).

• De hoeveelheid tijd die je hier in steekt, mag je zelf bepalen. We hopen dat elke vrijwilliger in totaal zo’n 50 personen kan informeren. Meer mag natuurlijk altijd! Hoe meer mensen geholpen kunnen worden des te beter.

• Er is een bescheiden vergoeding hiervoor beschikbaar.

Join our new project, Financial Empowerment!

​

More and more people in the Netherlands are struggling to make ends meet financially, and many are living in debt. Churches are often very active in helping people improve their lives, both spiritually and socio-economically. People often knock on the church's door, which then gives, for example, a food package.

 

This project aims to inform people in financial stress about the help they are entitled to. Indeed, help is available - the national government has recently developed a number of new options to combat rising poverty. But it turns out that 30% of people who are entitled to it do not use it. Sometimes because they do not know they are entitled to it, or do not know how to find the way.

​

In this project, church workers will receive a short training to become "Financial Ambassadors". They will be further equipped and empowered to educate people in and around their churches and community about what their rights for help are. SKIN believes this will strengthen the social impact of churches by giving church workers more knowledge about available aid.

​

The primary goal of this project is to bridge the gap between people with financial stress and available assistance programs. Anonymity is guaranteed, personal data that would make people traceable will not be collected. People who ask the church for help out of trust should be able to count on this.  

 

Would you like to become a Financial Ambassador for your church or community?

This would involve the following:

• The project is starting in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, so we are looking for people from churches in these cities. You do not necessarily have to live in one of these cities.

• You will receive a short (and free) training of two half-days, during which you will learn to use a quick scan and get information about available help from government and non-governmental organizations in your city.

• You will then be asked to share this information within your community, and encourage as many people as possible to take the quick scan. This sharing of information can be done at group activities (for example, after a church service, at a women's night, or any other creative idea you can think of) or in one-on-one conversations. This sharing of information can take place in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, or any other place.

• After taking the quick scan, should people discover that they are entitled to more help than they knew, you can give them further information about how to access that help. If necessary, you can go with them (for example, to help translate).

• The amount of time you can put into this project is up to you. We hope that each volunteer can inform about 50 people in total. More is of course always fine! The more people can be helped the better. 

• A modest fee is available for Financial Ambassadors.
